Inflamed Peroneal Tendon
Hello there! I hope you're having a great week. The weather has been awesome so it's been nice for outdoor training. For a couple of weeks I've been running outside (steady state, on pavement. This is also something I am not very conditioned to do) and it may be part of the cause of pain and inflammation of my Peroneal Tendon (the two tendons that lie behind the outer ankle bone). Ultra sound treatments by a physiotherapist have been started today. He says it will most likely not take all that long to improve and that it's a good idea to avoid movements that cause a lot of impact (running, jumping). We'll go over ways to strengthen the area this week as well as more stretching. He conducted some strength tests and says they show a strength imbalance between the right and the left foot. The way my sandals, foam soled shoes, worn today, have begun to wear and foot position while standing bare foot shows slight pronation of my right foot but not my left which could cause more stress to be put on the area. We'll be working together to fix that up. It's funny because I remember in high school during track season I would often notice a similar pain (on a lesser scale), but it went ignored. As kids we think we're invincible right? :)
It's nothing to be too concerned with and running for long distances isn't the most productive way to train for my particular goals anyway. This is just another reminder not to train this way, especially not on hard pavement and, perhaps, a gateway to fixing an imbalance.
